Growing up in Glace Bay, Mortimer's familiarity with the local dialect, specifically the ‘Cape Breton Accent,’ proved advantageous when he was assigned a dialect coach for a feature film. Reflecting on his education at CBU, Mortimer credits the skills he developed there as pivotal to his success, helping him overcome initial doubts about pursuing acting as a viable career path.
